Playa Clean

We recently met Martin Romo, a local resident who is working to clean up Baja.  Martin invites the local community to get involved personally with cleaning up the beaches and countryside along the highways.

Martin is seeking people to help clean up roadside on the way to Mexicali this coming Thursday.

Martin writes:

Last Thursday I drove to Mexicali I saw on federal highway plenty of trash specially blown tires from the gold mine to San Felipe. My idea is to clean all of that this Thursday coming. Planning to go there at 6 a.m. I have some shovels, trash bags and other cleaning supplies.Easter week is coming and we must do something about it.

If you want to get involved and make a difference, you can contact Martin Romo at arttvmedia@yahoo.com or through his Facebook page at Martin Romo C.

The articles posted under “Other Ways to Help” are about separate organizations or groups that function San Felipe.  They are not part of Volunteers Without Limits but we at Volunteers Without Limits wish to encourage people to contribute or help where ever their hearts and minds lead them to do so.  In that spirit, we hope to make this site a place that links those who want to do something with those who need help doing.

Better Together

One of the groups that works closely with Volunteers Without Limits are the folks that call themselves the Better Together in Christ group. A faith based ministry, they keep a rather low profile and I don’t believe they even have a website but they do a mighty work in the community helping San Felipe seniors in need of home improvements, food and health care.  They are not a non-profit organization, just a group of people who are not afraid to get their hands dirty (or blistered).  They repair roofs, fix plumbing and put in windows and doors for the elderly.  They also relocate donated trailers and 5th wheels to provide much needed housing.

If you would like to learn more about BetterTogether, their next meeting will be on April 10th at the Pavilion at 1 p.m. or you can contact them at Bettertogetherjc@aol.com.

Summer Exodus

Spring is upon us and we are sad to see so many of our San Felipe friends making preparations to head north for the summer months.

If you must leave however, remember the people who have no choice but to remain in San Felipe.  The need for food continues and the need for fresh water increases as the temperatures rise.  Your donations can help us fill those needs.

As our new location is a bit out of the way, we have set up several conveniently located drop sites at places where there the residents or business owner have agreed to receive items for the food bank and thrift shop.  So as you pack up for the move, please remember to set aside those working and serviceable household items that you just don’t need anymore along with those things you don’t want to leave on pantry shelves until your return.

We will distribute food items to those in need and the clothes and housewares will be sold in the thrift shop to buy food and water during the coming months.
